The heroes of Bolt: Dads behind wheels

In celebration of Fathers Day, our heartfelt thank you goes to all the amazing fathers who keep Ghana moving. Thank you!

We’d also like to introduce you to three of our Bolt heroes – Richmond, David and Mark, who shared their fatherhood journeys with us. Their stories all have one thing in common – true joy for being able to provide for their families with work that offers them the flexibility to be present for the moments that matter.

Richmond, #GirlDad to a 7-month-old baby girl

32-year-old Richmond has a warm and welcoming personality and lights up every room he walks into. Even across the phone, and especially when he talks about his daughter, his energy is infectious.

On fatherhood, he says “The best thing about my life now is being a dad to my wonderful baby girl. There are many times during trips when I can’t wait to go back home and hold her. She is the reason I put in the hours every day. I am grateful for the financial independence that Bolt has afforded me.”

Mark, dad to three sets of twins

“Hello, Mark speaking! Good day!” is the way Mark answers the phone. A true professional, Mark started his Bolt journey in May last year, as a means to earn an income.

Mark is a dad to twins – as in THREE sets of them! And when you talk to him, you get the sense that he wears the aura of a man with a purpose.

Being a family man, Mark is especially proud of his family. He considers them his biggest asset.

“The best gift God ever gave me is my beautiful family. Working as a Bolt driver and being able to play my fatherly role has been good. Bolt is my job, as is fatherhood, and both roles go hand in hand in improving who I am as a person. I want to instil in my kids a sense of discipline and purpose. Nothing I have ever done has given me more joy or reward as fatherhood has. Being able to protect and provide for my family is why I drive and I’m thankful for Bolt.”

David, proud of his “twin” daughter

After David lost his job last year, he started driving with Bolt. He’s enjoyed driving so much that he considers himself a part-time therapist from whom his riders often seek life advice. When asked about his daughter, he responded, “She is my first priority. As a man who has gone through some of the struggles of life including job loss, having her was the light at the end of the tunnel. I am always thankful that I can provide for her; with accommodation and everything else she needs.”

“When I look at her, I see myself,” he says. “And that makes me strive to ensure that she has it easier in life. I’ve been blessed!”
